My name is Chris Marakovitz. I’m a strategic content provider, copywriter, communications consultant and the founder of Mara Communications (MaraComm for short).

I create content and messaging that motivates your target audience to make decisions and take desired ACTION.

My road to strategic communications was anything but direct.

At Ithaca College, where I received a BS in Communications, I thought I might become a sportscaster.

And then I took a film course and fell in love with screenwriting. This led me to Los Angeles in pursuit of Hollywood success.

Almost immediately I began making money as a writer, but not necessarily the kind of Hollywood money I had in mind. You see, I had to support myself somehow while I slaved away on my scripts, and it was copywriting that paid the bills.

At some point, it occurred to me that I seemed to be getting more traction from my copywriting than from my film work. And not just financially. I started to see that I had a talent for strategic thinking and persuasive writing. I found great satisfaction and even a sense of empowerment through my ability to achieve desired outcomes for clients.

Even so, it wasn’t easy to leave the Hollywood Dream behind. I was stubborn. I thought if I stuck with it long enough things would turn around. Most of all, I didn’t want to admit defeat.

It wasn’t easy. But I made a decision to change direction.

And I haven’t looked back since.

After “winging it” for years, I went to school on the fundamentals and advanced concepts of copywriting, sales, and marketing. I studied from the masters. I read incessantly. I took courses. I practiced what I was learning, I adapted it, and I found what worked for me and, more importantly, I found what works for you.

Most of all, I learned how to apply my storytelling skills to the types of sales and marketing problems that my clients were hiring me to solve.

As a lover of film, literature, theater, you name it, I already knew about the immense power of a well-constructed story to move an audience. What I never imagined, and what I now understood, was that the same storytelling skills I learned as a screenwriter also have immense power to persuade and motivate prospects in a business context. 

That’s when everything started to click. That’s when I realized that all those years spent writing screenplays were not wasted. Maybe “defeat” wasn’t the right word after all. More like…deferred success.

And now…having found that success, I am relentless in seeking to deliver value in the form of concrete, measurable results to every client I work with.
